New for 2022

Preparations are now well under way for our 2022 event, and we look forward to meeting you on 23rd & 24th April at Carver Barracks!

In the run up to the event we’ll be looking at some of the things you’ll be able to see.

This year our traditional funfair, provided as ever by the Rule family, will feature this stunning set of steam gallopers built by Savage of King’s Lynn in 1893!

CAR SHOW THIS WEEKEND

Come along to our new home, Carver Barracks, on July 24th.  The Crank Up promotional stand will be attending along with some steam engines, other Crank Up exhibits and members of the CrankUp Committee.  Come and say hello!

Saffron Walden Crank Up 2021

We regret to inform you that the committee of the Saffron Walden Crank Up, along with the East Anglian Traction Engine Society, have taken the sad decision that we must once again postpone our event.
We had hoped that the situation with the Covid-19 pandemic would have eased enough to allow our 2021 event to take place, however with the nation in a third lockdown, of indeterminate length, and the date of our event rapidly approaching it is the only option realistically open to us.
This is a bitter disappointment to all of us. We send our thanks and best wishes to all of our many supporters, we hope you all stay well and healthy.
We look forward to meeting you again at next year’s Saffron Walden Crank Up, on 23rd & 24th April 2022.

Exciting news!

Firstly, we’d like to thank everybody who supported our event this year, despite the weather on Saturday itwas a resounding success.

Many of you will be aware that this year was our last at Sparrows End.  We have enjoyed our time there and would like to thank our hosts for looking after us so well for five years.

We can confirm that next year’s event will be on 25th & 26th April.  We are moving across town to Carver Barracks (Debden Aerodrome) .

Other exhibits

It’s not all about steam engines at the Crank Up, we’ll be hosting all sorts of interesting exhibits from a bygone age!
